Plymouth Argyle striker Owen Oseni has admitted he was left in disbelief following his first call-up to Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The striker said the moment marks a major breakthrough in his young career.
Oseni was named in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Unity Cup by head coach Éric Chelle. He is also set for friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
The 23-year-old described the opportunity with genuine excitement and gratitude: “I know I had an alright season, but to get called up… was quite a big deal,” He said.
“The coaches were watching me, obviously they picked up on the form I’d hit.”
His late-season surge clearly caught national attention.
Oseni qualifies through his father, while also eligible for Ivory Coast and Ireland. Still, Nigeria became the obvious choice once the call arrived.

“It’s massive for me and my career and Nigeria… was a decision that I couldn’t turn down.”

“I didn’t think there was a possibility that that could happen. All I know is to just work hard and many doors could open.”
