Nathaniel delivered a commanding performance, storming across the finish line in 48.47 seconds to claim gold. England’s Jake Minshull took silver in 48.99 seconds, while Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson captured bronze in 49.22 seconds.
This dramatic triumph represents a massive career milestone after Nathaniel finished sixth at the Birmingham 2022 Games. Four years later, he returned with authority to conquer the Commonwealth stage in spectacular style.
Meanwhile, Udodi Onwuzurike showcased outstanding speed from lane eight during a thrilling men’s 200m final. The Nigerian clocked a season’s best 20.09 seconds, finishing just behind South Africa’s gold medalist Sinesipho Dambile.

In decathlon action, debutant Jami Schlueter concluded an impressive campaign by finishing seventh overall with 7,665 points. He remained in podium contention throughout, ending opening day in fourth before securing a strong finish.
Following Friday’s success, Nigeria’s overall tally rose to nine gold, six silver, and three bronze medals. This impressive effort brings the nation’s total haul to 18 medals with several events remaining.
