Iconic country singer Dolly Parton has announced a pause in her music career following the recent loss of her longtime husband, Carl Dean, who died on March 3, 2025.
The couple had shared nearly six decades together, having been married for 59 years, and his passing has deeply affected the music star.
In a candid conversation with Khloe Kardashian on her podcast “Khloe in Wonder Land,” Dolly opened up about how her grief has impacted her creative process.
“I can’t do it right now ’cause I got so many other things that I can’t afford the luxury of, you know, of getting emotional right now,” she shared.

While she’s stepping back from recording, she hasn’t closed the door on future songwriting. “I’ll write something else, though, if it comes. I’m just putting that all on hold,” she added, admitting she currently feels “stalled.”
Before the tragic loss, Dolly had been gearing up for multiple projects. Among them is her much-anticipated Las Vegas residency, set to take place at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace from December 4 to 13, 2025.
