An Ekiti State High Court on Thursday sentenced two men to death by hanging for abducting a staff member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The convicts, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, were found guilty in suit number HAD/124C/2022 before High Court 1 sitting in Fajuyi, Ado‑Ekiti.
A third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged and acquitted after the court ruled that prosecutors failed to link him to the crime.
The case arose from the kidnapping of Omoboade Adesina, a female NYSC staff member, on April 22, 2022. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested the suspects and brought them to trial.

Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, said prosecutors proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt. He commended the DSS for diligent investigation, noting that evidence from an identification parade and call‑data records was decisive in securing the conviction.
The DSS welcomed the ruling, describing it as another success in its campaign against kidnapping and violent crimes. The agency pointed to recent convictions in Sokoto and Kogi States as proof of the impact of intelligence‑driven investigations.
Reaffirming its commitment, the DSS said it will continue to pursue perpetrators of violent crimes and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
