Ekiti State has achieved phenomenal progress in 29 years – Oyebanji

Ekiti Governor Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, declared on Wednesday that the state has achieved “phenomenal progress” over the 29 years since its creation.

In a statewide broadcast marking both the 29th anniversary of Ekiti State and the 65th anniversary of Nigerian independence, the governor reflected on the state’s journey since its establishment on October 1, 1996.

He noted that “God has been kind to Ekiti,” pointing to significant advancements in infrastructure, health, education, economy, and social development.

Oyebanji acknowledged the state’s founding fathers, traditional rulers, and generations before who made the creation a reality, paying tribute to the patriots who led the movement.

While admitting the state has not yet reached its ultimate destination, he asserted that “considerable mileage” has been recorded on all fronts of development.

“With our collective effort, Ekiti has witnessed phenomenal progress in the last 29 years of her creation,” the governor stated, calling on citizens to thankfully reflect on the journey so far.

He also extended congratulations to Nigerians and “Ekitikete” on the twin anniversaries.

Addressing the political climate, Oyebanji appealed for peace ahead of the upcoming electoral season, which includes party primary elections later this year and the main governorship election in June 2026.

He urged political parties, leaders, and their supporters to maintain peaceful conduct, stressing that the contest “must be for ideas and not for violence.”

The governor also congratulated Nigeria and Bola Tinubu, on Independence Day, expressing the profound gratitude of the Ekiti people for his support.

He rallied support for the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he credited with putting the economy on a positive trajectory “never seen in almost two decades.”

Furthermore, Oyebanji expressed his appreciation for the support received from the National Assembly, led by Senator Michael Bamidele; the State House of Assembly, led by Adeoye Aribasoye; and the Judiciary, led by the Chief Judge, Justice Adekanye Lekan Ogunmoye.

He also thanked political, traditional, and religious leaders, as well as various professional and labour groups.

The governor highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past three years across its six-pillar development agenda, stating he is proud that “Ekiti has sustainably and continuously been on a positive trajectory since we have been in the saddle.”

He disclosed that he will appear before the State House of Assembly on October 16th to give a full account of his stewardship as required by law, seeking continued support from citizens for the journey toward shared prosperity.
