Folashade Bada-Ambrose, the Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, has kicked off the new year by empowering 300 of her constituents through her HC 2.0 Community Outreach initiative.

At a vibrant annual programme held at Isale Eko, the Commissioner blended economic support with civic education, addressing the urgent need for grassroots understanding of Nigeria’s new tax landscape.

With the 2026 tax laws set to commence on January 1, Bada-Ambrose invited seasoned tax experts to lead a practical session for artisans, traders, and small business owners.

The session focused on tax compliance, clarity, and trust, ensuring that the local economy is prepared for the transition.

“As we prepare to step into 2026, one of the major topics of discussion has been the new tax law,” the Commissioner noted.

“Women in business drive household stability, and this outreach underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s resolve to connect policy with people at the grassroots.”

Beyond the educational sessions, the outreach provided immediate relief to 300 beneficiaries selected from across the 10 wards of Lagos Island.

The empowerment package included bags of foods distributed to ease seasonal pressures on vulnerable families, cash stipends provided to traders and artisans to boost their working capital for the new year and festive support promoting inclusive growth and community joy during the holiday season.

The Commissioner announced that the next phase of her economic drive, Igbega Oroaje (Igbega Iteration 2.0), is scheduled to launch in January 2026.

However, she issued a firm caveat to her constituents regarding participation.

To be eligible for the upcoming economic empowerment programmes, residents must possess a valid voter’s card.

Bada-Ambrose emphasized that this requirement is to ensure citizens remain alive to their civic responsibilities and play an active role in the governance that shapes their lives.
