‘Farmers league strikes again’ – Ligue 1 aims jibe at detractors


Ligue 1 took a jibe at its critics on social media following Lens’ 2-1 victory against Arsenal in their Champions League encounter on Tuesday.

Fourteen minutes into the match, Gabriel Jesus put Arsenal ahead when his shot beat Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba.

Midway into the first half, Lens equalised following a swift attacking play. Elye Wahi knocked the ball down with a weighted headed pass for Adrien Thomasson to convert an astonishing curling effort.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard had chances to put Arsenal back in the driving seat but failed to score.

20-year-old Wahi sealed a famous victory for the Ligue 1 side when his first-time effort flew past David Raya in goal.

Ligue 1 X (formerly Twitter) account then made took a jibe a their detractors captioning a photo: “FARMERS LEAGUE STRIKES AGAIN.”

The loss was Arsenal’s first this season and will hope to bounce back against Sevilla on matchday three.

Mikel Arteta’s side have a tough test in their next game – a Premier League fixture against table toppers Manchester City on Sunday.
