Globacom, one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications providers, has rolled out a major upgrade initiative aimed at improving network quality and extending service coverage nationwide.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the company reaffirmed its dedication to delivering high-quality service and better customer experience, especially following recent tariff reviews approved by industry regulators.

The statement explained that the company is investing heavily to reposition its infrastructure for optimal performance across the country.

“We decided, at a huge cost, to relocate the fibres, many of which had been vandalised in several places by uncoordinated road construction activities, in order to bring best-in-class services to customers,” Globacom stated.

A key part of the upgrade includes installing new base stations to boost signal strength in underserved communities and expanding capacity in densely populated areas. This move is designed to enhance voice and data services for users nationwide.

The firm also disclosed that it has had to undertake an expensive fibre relocation process in key regions where construction activities have disrupted its network. Affected areas include major routes such as Auchi-Okene, Benin-Ekpoma, Lafia-Akwanga, Minna-Abuja, and Funtua-Gusau.

According to the company, these network investments signal a new phase of improved service for subscribers, as hundreds of new sites are nearing completion across Nigeria.

Already this year, Globacom has launched thousands of 4G LTE sites in key locations, with plans underway to roll out hundreds more. This expansion is complemented by a significant upgrade of its backhaul infrastructure, covering both fibre and microwave technology, as well as enhancements to the core network.

These ongoing efforts, the company noted, are expected to result in faster internet speeds, better call quality, and wider coverage.

Looking forward, Globacom plans to roll out over a thousand additional sites in the next 12 months, focusing primarily on LTE expansion to strengthen data connectivity.

The company also said it is investing in more sustainable operations, with a transition to hybrid power solutions that prioritize battery power over generator use, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint.

Despite the progress, Globacom raised concerns about recurring vandalism of network infrastructure, calling attention to the need for stronger protection of telecom assets designated as critical national infrastructure.

The telecoms giant assured its customers that these investments will yield long-term benefits in the form of superior service quality and improved access across the country.
