Google has introduced AI-generated summaries of store reviews on Chrome, helping users quickly assess retailer reputation within the browser.
The feature, now available to desktop users in the US, displays a pop-up when users click the icon next to the URL bar on store websites.
According to Google, the summaries highlight customer feedback on shipping, returns, pricing, service quality, and product satisfaction.
“These summaries are based on reviews from multiple trusted sources and aim to simplify user decision-making,” the company said in a blog post.
Google confirmed that the summaries are not AI-written reviews, but condensations of user feedback from verified review partners.
Supported platforms include Trustpilot, Bazaarvoice, Verified Reviews, Reseller Ratings, ScamAdviser, Reputation.com, and Yotpo.
Chrome also displays the store’s star rating, giving users a combined view of reputation and performance at a glance.

The company said the feature is designed to reduce reliance on isolated reviews and mitigate the impact of manipulated ratings.
Currently, the AI summaries are only available in English and limited to desktop versions of Chrome in the United States.
Google did not provide a timeline for rollout to mobile or international users but indicated broader plans are in progress.
Analysts say the feature is part of Google’s wider effort to integrate AI into shopping and browsing, competing with Amazon’s similar tools.
Critics have raised concerns about bias and over-reliance on summaries, but Google claims spam filters and source credibility checks are in place.
The feature builds on earlier AI deployments in Search and Shopping, reinforcing Google’s pivot toward smarter, user-centric browsing tools.
