The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has praised the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for a new initiative that will provide full scholarships to the children of fallen security personnel.

The IGP commended the group during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The DEPOWA President, Oghogho Musa, who led the delegation, stated that the scholarship programme is a core part of the “Thank You to Our Troops” initiative.

The programme is set to be officially launched with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026.

Musa further explained that the scholarship is designed to benefit the children of military and police personnel who have died in the line of duty.

She added that the academy will also admit children from surrounding communities to promote national unity and cohesion.

She extended her gratitude to the Egbetokun and acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by police officers in the fight against violent crime and their contributions to international peacekeeping missions.

In his response, Egbetokun reaffirmed the police’s dedication to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the nation’s democratic principles.

He underscored the NPF’s commitment to its constitutional duties, noting that the support of stakeholders like DEPOWA and other related associations is crucial to its success.
