Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned what he described as the Nigerian government’s misplaced focus on revenue generation while the country continues to grapple with widespread insecurity.
In a post on his social media pages on Thursday, Atiku stated, “We cannot continue to lose our productive population to sundry criminalities and yet make bogus claims about reaching revenue targets, as though the lives of the workforce that produces the revenue don’t matter.”
He made the statement in response to a recent attack on the Wagga Mongono community in Adamawa State’s Madagali Local Government Area.
The assault, which occurred on Tuesday by suspected insurgents, reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least four people, with several others injured and homes, shops, and a church destroyed.
Residents were forced to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, which he described as “deeply personal” due to his roots in Adamawa, Atiku called for a decisive response from the federal government.
He argued that Nigerians are “tired of government’s empty claims of security improvements” and would prefer to see the same level of pressure applied to fighting insecurity as is applied to generating revenue.
“The government must move beyond mere rhetoric and propaganda and take decisive, sustained action to protect lives and property,” Atiku urged.
He stressed that insecurity remains a daily threat for many citizens, and the Wagga Mongono attack is a stark reminder of how far the country is from achieving genuine security.
He offered prayers for the victims, expressing hope for healing and comfort for the affected community.
