Inter Lagos have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and will compete in the 2026/27 season, bringing top-flight football back to another corner of Africa’s most populous city.
The Lagos-based club won their spot from the Nigeria National League (NNL), joining Ikorodu City FC in the NPFL. The two sides will now contest a Lagos derby next season, adding fresh local rivalry to the country’s elite division.
Lagos State currently has one NPFL team in Ikorodu City, which gained promotion last season. Inter Lagos’s arrival doubles that number. Sporting Lagos could make it three if they finish top of their NNL group and secure the remaining promotion slot.
The prospect of three Lagos clubs in the NPFL for the first time shows the city’s growing football culture and grassroots development.
Inter Lagos will now prepare for life in the top flight, with the Lagos derby against Ikorodu City already one of the most anticipated fixtures of the 2026/27 campaign.
