In a transfer that has caught the attention of football lovers, Sunderland’s rising star Jobe Bellingham has sealed a sensational switch to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
The 19-year-old midfielder signed a five-year contract that keeps him at the German side until June 2030.
Notably, this move shatters Sunderland’s transfer record, with the fee reportedly set at €32 million (£26.96 million) plus €5 million (£4.2 million) in performance-based add-ons.
Although Bellingham only joined Sunderland in 2023, his impact has been undeniable. He played an impressive 90 matches, contributing heavily to the Black Cats’ recent promotion to the Premier League.

Furthermore, his early career at Birmingham City, where he rose through the academy ranks, laid the foundation for his professional breakthrough.

Interestingly, Bellingham’s move mirrors that of his elder brother Jude, who also left Birmingham City for Dortmund in 2020 before becoming a star at Real Madrid. This sibling connection makes the transfer even more captivating for fans on both sides of the Channel.
Despite leaving Wearside, Bellingham paid tribute to Sunderland supporters, expressing deep gratitude for their unwavering support. He promised to represent the spirit of Sunderland in all his future endeavors, regardless of where his career takes him.
With the transfer completed before Dortmund’s first FIFA Club World Cup fixture, Bellingham is eligible to feature in the tournament. The German side kicks off their campaign against Brazilian champions Fluminense on June 17.
Additionally, Bellingham remains part of England’s squad for the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia later this month. However, manager Lee Carsley has stated that players involved in the Club World Cup may be released to feature for their clubs.
Dortmund are fresh from securing Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in the Bundesliga. The club view Bellingham as a crucial part of their squad rebuild.
