The National Sports Commission (NSC) has hailed Nigerian athlete Jordan Joel after he stormed to gold in the heavyweight (+87kg) division at the British International Taekwondo Open in Manchester, United Kingdom.
According to the NSC, Jordan won three straight bouts from the quarterfinals to the final, earning valuable world ranking points.
His performance also helped Team Nigeria to 10th place overall among 142 senior teams.
“I am proud to represent Nigeria and to bring this medal home,” Jordan said after the victory.

At the same time, he praised the Commission’s Diaspora Talents Development Committee, calling it an important link between athletes abroad and grassroots sports back home.
The NSC noted that Jordan’s success underscores the growing impact of its diaspora initiative, which aims to create pathways for overseas athletes to strengthen Nigeria’s international sporting record.
Jordan’s triumph not only adds to Nigeria’s medal tally but also shows how diaspora talent can play a decisive role in shaping the country’s future in global competitions.
