The Kwara State Executive Council has given its approval for a series of new construction projects, signalling a strong focus on infrastructure and human capital development.
The approvals, announced on Thursday, include new road constructions in the southern region of the state, a major university building, and the rehabilitation of two stadia.
A significant part of the Kwara Smart City project is now underway with the approval for a new four-story administrative and senate building for the Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED).
The contract for the N11.9 billion project was awarded to M C & T Limited and is expected to be completed in 15 months.
According to the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Segun Ogunsola, the building will house key university offices and a council chamber.

The council also approved two major road projects. A 15km project for the Ojoku-Ilemona Bye-Pass Road in Oyun Local Government Area was awarded for N6.4 billion to Construction Products Nig. Ltd.
The road is designed to connect traffic to the existing Afon-Ojoku-Offa-Odo Otin road.
Additionally, a N2 billion contract was approved for the construction of the Alabe-Oreke Road in Ifelodun, which will link the area’s rocky terrain to other agrarian communities.
This project, awarded to Wallyson Ventures, will complete a long stretch connecting Owode Ofaro and Isin Local Government Areas.
In a move to improve sports facilities, contractors have been mobilised to begin construction works on the Offa and Lafiagi Stadia, which have been in a state of disrepair for years.
The rehabilitation of these stadia aims to provide public access to standard sports facilities across the state.
