The Lagos State Government has sealed the Purple Mall in Lekki indefinitely following a tragic incident at its parking lot on Wednesday, which claimed the life of a young Nigerian.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the government announced the constitution of a specialised investigative team to determine the root cause of the parking lot collapse.
Wahab explained that the investigation would also review the mall’s compliance with building safety regulations and check for any environmental or structural violations.
“This heartbreaking accident was entirely preventable,” Wahab stated.

“We will ensure full accountability and implement all necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.”
He expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public of the government’s commitment to safety.
“Lagosians deserve safe public spaces, and we will not compromise on this,” he added.
Wahab promised that the government would provide continuous updates as the investigation progresses.
