Neo Akpofure takes legal action over rape accusations

Reality TV star, Neo Akpofure, has formally demanded a public apology and retraction after being accused of sexual assault on social media.

Akpofure’s lawyers from E.L. Akpofure, San & Co. sent a legal notice to an 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) user, Ms. Arikan Udoka, who had posted allegations against him.

The post claimed that the alleged incident occurred while both were students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and described the encounter as non-consensual.

She also claimed they had previously been involved in casual sexual relations.

His legal team denied the allegations, calling them false and damaging to Akpofure’s reputation.

They argued that the allegations portray him as a sexual offender and have caused public shame and emotional harm.

The notice instructed Udoka to remove the post and any related content, issue a public retraction, and apologize for the statements.

It also requests a written promise not to make further defamatory statements.

The lawyers warned that if these demands are not met within 48 hours, legal action, including a civil suit for defamation under Nigerian law, will be pursued.

The notice read in part: “Your allegation is entirely false, malicious and defamatory to say the least. It portrays our Client as a sexual offender and a criminal, thereby subjecting him to public odium, reputational injury, emotional distress, and severe personal and professional damage.”
