The Cross River State Police Command has welcomed Sunday Akata as its new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

His appointment was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, as part of strategic efforts to enhance the force’s communication and public engagement.

An indigene of Edo State, Akata brings a unique blend of scientific precision and tactical expertise to his new role.

He is a 2022 graduate of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.

Since joining the force, he has undergone some of the most rigorous training programmes, including counter-terrorism combat operations training at Ende Hills in Nasarawa State, specialised basic crime scene management training in Wudil, Kano, and both basic and advanced detective courses at the Police Staff College, Jos.

He also completed citizenship and leadership training at Shere Hills, Jos, further strengthening his professional and leadership capacity within the Nigeria Police Force.

He is also a member of the National Institute of Social Media Analysts (NISMA), signalling a modern, tech-savvy approach to managing the command’s digital presence and public image.

Before this elevation, Akata was already a familiar face within the Cross River Command, having served with distinction in high-pressure roles.

He previously served as the Divisional Traffic Officer (A Division, Calabar) and was the Officer-in-Charge of the State Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU), where he gained firsthand experience in resolving public grievances and improving police-citizen relations.

In her final act as PPRO, Ugbo encouraged the media and the public to extend the same cooperation to her successor.
