Nigerian cyclists set for 2026 African Track Championships‎


Nigeria’s top cyclists have begun preparing for the National Track Championships, a key selection event ahead of the 2026 CAC African Track and Para‑Track Cycling Championships in Abuja. 

‎The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the continental championships will be held in two phases at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome. Organizers slated the Para‑Track events for 9 – 11 May, while the Track Championships will run from 13 – 17 May 2026. 

‎According to the NSC, this preparatory stage is crucial for assembling a strong Team Nigeria contingent.

Athletes are undergoing performance assessments and competitive evaluations to ensure that only the most prepared cyclists represent the country.

The Commission added that it is working with the Cycling Federation of Nigeria to present a medal‑ready team against Africa’s best.

Hosting the championships in Abuja, the NSC noted, places Nigeria at the center of continental cycling and showcases its facilities while boosting local interest.

‎With the countdown to May underway, Team Nigeria’s cyclists will intensify training. The NSC assured it will make every effort to ensure Nigeria fields a formidable team on home soil.
