The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast heavy rains and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, increasing flood risk in many states.
In the northern region, thunderstorms will begin Monday over Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. Moderate rains will follow in Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa. Flood risk is high in Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto.
Central states like Niger will experience light rain Monday morning. Afternoon storms are expected in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi. Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger face elevated flood risks.
In the southern region, cloudy skies with light rain will appear in Ebonyi, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Moderate rains will later spread to Enugu, Edo, Osun, Abia, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa. Flooding risk is especially high in Delta, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

States including Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Bauchi, and Kebbi have been warned of floods over the coming days. In response, Oyo, Ogun, and Kwara governments have launched public awareness campaigns and begun clearing drainage systems.
NiMet’s alert covers all regions, urging residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and prepare adequately. Multi-agency responses have been activated in vulnerable states to reduce potential damage.
These weather patterns follow seasonal trends but show heightened intensity this year, stressing the need for coordinated disaster management.
