The Board of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), led by its Chairman, Lawal Abdullahi and the Managing Director/CEO, Shehu Ma’aji, concluded its strategic engagement tour of all member states.

The final stop was a courtesy visit to Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, at Government House in Kaduna.

This series of visits marked the official commencement of the Commission’s mandate to drive inclusive and sustainable development across the North-West region.

The tour aimed to foster strong collaboration with state governments, recognising their crucial role in the NWDC’s mission.

During his address, Abdullahi reiterated the Commission’s dedication to bridging developmental disparities and fostering prosperity throughout the region.

He announced that the NWDC plans to work in close partnership with the governors of the North-West states to craft a comprehensive 10-year master plan.

This plan is envisioned as a roadmap for integrated growth across the entire region.

Prof. Ma’aji, in his remarks, further elaborated on the Commission’s core intervention areas, which include agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development.

He underscored the NWDC’s commitment to collaborative efforts with state governments to achieve measurable progress in these vital sectors.

Sani extended a warm welcome to the NWDC leadership, expressing his confidence in the Commission’s vision and its capacity to catalyse regional development.

He pledged Kaduna State’s complete support for the NWDC’s mandate, emphasising that synergy with state governments is paramount for its success.

“The success of the North-West Development Commission depends on synergy with state governments. Kaduna State is fully committed to supporting this collective mission of regional transformation,” Governor Sani affirmed.

He further advised the Commission to conduct thorough needs assessments, suggesting town hall meetings and direct engagement with state leadership to identify priorities.

“There are no stakeholders more important than the governors at this critical stage. Hold town halls, hear from the people, and come up with holistic programmes. If you do this, history will be kind to you,” Sani stated.

Demonstrating Kaduna’s commitment, Governor Sani also provided the Commission with office accommodation and a utility vehicle to assist its operational activities.

With this visit to Kaduna State, following prior engagements in Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara, the NWDC has now completed its initial tour of all seven member states.

The Commission is now poised to begin the full implementation of its strategic plans, which are designed to uplift communities and unlock the immense potential of the North-West region.
