Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has launched ten Digital Learning Centres across the federation in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The initiative, under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), established new centres in Abia, Delta, Edo, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara States.

Mrs Tinubu stated that the centres are crucial for expanding youth empowerment and digital inclusion, noting that “sustained advancement of digital literacy is already driving inclusive growth in the country.”

Speaking from her office during the virtual inauguration, Mrs Tinubu championed enhanced digital skills, particularly among women, advocating for the full digitisation of sectors like farming and petty trading to improve the ease of doing business and enhance profitability.

“I urge members of the various beneficiary communities to make good use of these facilities to enhance learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship, thereby improving livelihoods and contributing to national development,” she said.

She added that the initiative aligns with his husband, President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to accelerate economic diversification through industrialisation and digitalisation.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, affirmed that digital transformation is vital for accelerating economic diversification and development.

He highlighted that the project signifies unlocking potentials across various sectors especially among women and youth.

Abdullahi commended the RHI for its efforts in empowering Nigerians and driving national prosperity and inclusivity.

Wives of the state governors from the ten beneficiary states were in attendance at their respective locations for the virtual ceremony.

The inauguration represents a significant step in the RHI/NITDA collaboration to deepen the adoption and utilisation of digital tools by youths and women nationwide.

NITDA is already working to expand digital infrastructure across the country.

The agency noted that it has already established 296 digital centres under the current administration, with 15 of those in collaboration with RHI.

Furthermore, NITDA is planning to build an additional 148 digital infrastructures and aims to have a total of 592 centres by 2027.
