Leadership of Ogbo-Ogwu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, has handed over counterfeit medicines valued at over N265 million to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Market Chairman Chukwuleta Ndubuisi announced the surrender during a media briefing on December 22, 2025.

Seized items include unwholesome, expired, banned, fake, and substandard pharmaceutical products.

Some goods were confiscated last year, while others followed NAFDAC raids on the market.

Ndubuisi stated that periodic seizures continue to eradicate counterfeit drugs, with taskforces monitoring dealers at strategic points.

He noted reduced peddling within the market, though many fake drugs enter through smuggling from outside.

Ndubuisi reported threats to his life from counterfeit dealers attempting to undermine his executive.

NAFDAC State Coordinator Pharm. Louis Madubuattah received over 400 cartons of mostly expired and unregistered products for warehousing and eventual destruction.

This collaboration supports NAFDAC’s regulatory efforts to prevent circulation of harmful medicines and protect public health in Nigeria.
