Oyebanji vows to govern without grudges

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has assured citizens that he harbours no grudges against anyone, including political opponents focused on the 2026 governorship ticket.

He emphasised his commitment to unity and accommodation in the pursuit of state development.

The governor’s declaration was made at a special thanksgiving service held at the Emmanuel Church Cathedral in Ado-Ekiti to commemorate the third anniversary of his administration.

Citing Psalms 136, Oyebanji stressed that “it is only in forgiveness that Ekiti can triumph, prosper and develop,” asserting that he has nobody to fight as the governor serving the state in trust for its people.

“I have forgiven those who took a different course in the process of our party’s primary,” Oyebanji stated, extending an invitation to all genuinely interested in reconciling with the party.

He also thanked those who offered “objective “ criticisms for keeping his administration focused.

In a striking display of political unity, all former governors of Ekiti State— Niyi Adebayo, Kayode Fayemi, Segun Oni, and Ayodele Fayose—attended the event and collectively backed Oyebanji’s bid for re-election in 2026.

Oni commended Oyebanji for steering the state toward economic prosperity despite limited resources, stating the Governor “came prepared for governance” and predicting his victory was certain given the popular support.

Fayose predicted a “landslide victory” for Oyebanji in 2026, advising him to forgive his traducers, noting, “You have been a unifier among us and you have raised the bar of politics and governance by showing that there is strength in unity.”

Adebayo praised Oyebanji for achieving the “daunting task” of uniting all past governors, urging Ekiti people not to miss the “golden opportunity” to support him in the next election.

Fayemi represented by his wife Erelu Bisi Fayemi, congratulated the governor for not betraying the spirit of continuity, adding that Ekiti “will witness greater development and prosperity in your second term.”

Oyebanji acknowledged all the former governors as his benefactors, specifically thanking Adebayo and Fayemi for their mentorship and Oni and Fayose for their ongoing support.

Earlier, the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Rev Olusola Ajayi, commended the governor for his fidelity to his promises, citing prompt salary payments, infrastructure development, and an inclusive style of governance.

Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele also reassured the governor of the loyalty of the state’s National Assembly members.
