Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman paid a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Friday, where he proudly presented his 2024 CAF Footballer of the Year award.
The Atalanta forward, aged 27, was named Africa’s best footballer last December, following in the footsteps of fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who received the honour in 2023.
Lookman’s visit follows an exceptional 2024/25 season, during which he scored 20 goals across all competitions, playing a key role in Atalanta’s third-place finish in Italy’s Serie A.

His standout performances in the 2023/24 campaign included 17 goals, 11 assists, and a memorable hattrick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen—an achievement that led Atalanta to their first-ever European trophy.
On the international front, Lookman was vital to Nigeria’s impressive run in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire. He netted three important goals and earned a spot in the tournament’s Best XI, alongside team captain William Troost-Ekong, as the Super Eagles finished as runners-up.
The visit reflects the increasing global recognition of Nigerian athletes and emphasizes the government’s commitment to celebrating and encouraging excellence in sports.
