Prague University Shooting: Biden extends condolences to victims 


The United States has joined a chorus of international condemnation in the wake of a deadly shooting at Prague University that claimed at least 15 lives and injured dozens more on Thursday.

President Joe Biden in a tweet shared on his official X handle (formerly Twitter) expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and the Czech people in a statement released by the White House.

“This senseless act of violence has struck at the heart of the academic community and shocked the world,” the statement read.

Biden further pledged the “steadfast support” of the United States to the Czech government as it investigates the tragedy.

Authorities identified the alleged shooter as a 24-year-old Czech student, whose name has been withheld pending further investigation. 

According to reports, the suspect fatally shot his father before entering the university campus and opening fire, leaving a trail of devastation in his wake.

While details remain scarce, Czech law enforcement is actively investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting. 

The U.S. Embassy in Prague confirmed it is in close contact with local authorities and offered assistance to any American citizens affected by the tragedy.

The Prague University shooting has cast a shadow over the festive season, prompting calls for stricter gun control measures and renewed debates about mental health resources in the region.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The tweet read, “My heart is with those who lost their lives in the senseless shooting in Prague, those injured, and the Czech people.
