He added that the consultations within the party had produced a unanimous position, describing the deputy governor as “fit and ready” for the role.

Reacting to the endorsement, Hamzat expressed appreciation in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

He said Sanwo-Olu’s confidence in him meant a great deal, noting that they had worked closely together in serving Lagos State.

He added that he did not take the vote of confidence lightly, describing it as both humbling and motivating.

“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose”, he said.

Consultations

Hamzat has been holding strategic consultations with key figures in the ruling party ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

On Sunday, he paid a visit to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, as part of ongoing political engagements and consultations.

The meeting was attended by several prominent political figures, including the Secretary of the Governors’ Advisory Council, Muti Are; Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon; Bode Oyedele; Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; Adekunle Olayinka; and the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Hakeem Shittu, among others.

Speaking during the meeting, Obanikoro said the delegation was there to seek Gbajabiamila’s support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition.

He added that the deputy governor is deeply rooted in Lagos politics and would require the backing of APC leaders to secure victory in the 2027 governorship race.
