Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Igor Tudor as interim head coach on a contract until June 2026. The Croatian replaces Thomas Frank, who was sacked on Wednesday after eight league games without victory.

Tudor has accepted the job and will take charge immediately. His first match will be the north London derby against Arsenal on 22 February.

Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League, five points above the relegation zone. The club also remains in the Champions League round of 16 despite their domestic struggles.

The 47-year-old has been out of work since October 2025, when Juventus sacked him after an eight-match winless run. He left the Italian giants eighth in Serie A with a 47.1 per cent win rate.

Tudor brings extensive European experience from spells at Marseille, Lazio, Galatasaray, and Hellas Verona. His only major trophy came in 2013, when he won the Croatian Cup with hometown club Hajduk Split.

Club sources told BBC Sport that Tottenham admired Tudor’s track record of making immediate impacts. At Lazio in 2024, he secured Europa League qualification after a mid-season appointment. At Juventus, he lost only one of his first nine games.

Tudor typically deploys a 3-4-2-1 system built on intense pressing and physical commitment. His Marseille side finished third in Ligue 1 during the 2022-23 season, accruing more points than the previous campaign’s runners-up.

The Croatian has prior connections to several Spurs players. He worked with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur during the 2020-21 season at Juventus. He also coached Randal Kolo Muani during his brief Turin reign.

Tottenham’s hierarchy, led by Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange, drove the appointment. The club views Tudor as a short-term solution to stabilise a fractured squad and address relegation fears.

Tudor, therefore, has until May to demonstrate his credentials. If he steers Tottenham clear of relegation and delivers a credible Champions League run, the interim label may not prevent permanent consideration.
