Nigerian music star, Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has edged past South African singer Tyla to become the African act with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.
The “Love Me Jeje” singer recently climbed to 38.3 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, narrowly moving ahead of Tyla, who currently stands at 38.2 million.
Tems’ rise follows a string of fresh releases and collaborations. Among them are ‘What You Need’ (Colour version), ‘Bounce Road Blues’ with J.Cole and Future, as well as her joint track with Dave, ‘Raindance,’ which continues to gain strong traction.

With her current momentum, Tems is now within reach of surpassing the all-time record of 40 million monthly listeners by an African artist, a milestone previously achieved by Tyla.
In addition, Tems maintains her position as the most-streamed female African artist on Spotify, boasting an impressive 4.7 billion total streams across all credits.
