Why Benjamin Sesko could be Manchester United’s next big goal machine

Benjamin Sesko is Manchester United's latest acquisition.

Benjamin Sesko’s arrival at Manchester United this August marks the latest chapter in the career of one of Europe’s brightest young forwards.

The 22-year-old Slovenian moves from RB Leipzig after an impressive two-year spell in Germany, where he netted 39 goals in 87 matches across all competitions. Twenty-seven of those strikes came in the Bundesliga, a return that crowned him the leading under-23 goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues over the past two seasons, ahead of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

Standing at 1.95 m, Sesko marries towering physical presence with remarkable athleticism. His top sprint speed of around 35.7 km/h ranked among the quickest in the Bundesliga, while his aerial prowess saw him dominate defenders in the air.

His success rate in aerial duels consistently placed him in the elite bracket for strikers. This marks him as a constant threat from crosses and set-pieces. Beyond sheer numbers, his style blends direct running with sharp hold-up play, often enabling teammates to exploit spaces he creates.

From Bundesliga breakout to Premier League prospect

From a technical standpoint, Sesko offers variety in his finishing. Comfortable on either foot and lethal with his head, he scores in a range of situations – from quick one-touch finishes inside the area to long-range efforts. In recent seasons, he has evolved beyond a pure penalty-box presence.

His touches in wide areas and deeper midfield positions have increased. This adjustment has made him more unpredictable and harder to mark, with defenders unable to pin him down to one zone. This suggests a level of efficiency that United will value in high-pressure matches where chances may be limited.

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, described Šeško’s combination of pace and physical dominance as “rare” and praised his mentality.

United believes he has both the attributes and the temperament to thrive under new manager Ruben Amorim, alongside fellow attacking recruits Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. For Sesko, the move offers not just a platform to prove himself in the Premier League but an opportunity to become the focal point of United’s attacking rebuild.

In essence, Sesko’s profile ticks multiple boxes – youth, proven productivity, adaptability, and room for growth. If he can translate his Bundesliga efficiency to English football, United may have found the striker to lead their resurgence.
