SEDA (Se Eda Community Development Initiative) has launched the maiden edition of She Grows Green, a women-focused climate leadership and green entrepreneurship programme, with more than 500 applicants from across Africa expressing interest in the initiative.
The programme is designed to prepare young women for opportunities in the growing green economy through training, mentorship, and enterprise development support.
The 12-week programme, which officially commenced on July 4, 2026, is supported by the Youth Empowerment Fund, a partnership between the European Union and Global Youth Mobilization (GYM), an initiative of the Big Six Youth Organizations. Through She Grows Green, SEDA is empowering the next generation of women climate leaders and green entrepreneurs with practical training, mentorship, networking opportunities, and enterprise development support.
The programme attracted over 500 applications from aspiring women climate leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators across Africa, reflecting the growing interest among young women to build careers and businesses that contribute to climate resilience and sustainable development. Over the next 12 weeks, participants will undertake a structured learning journey comprising 10 weeks of virtual learning followed by two weeks of practical facility visits, an onsite networking event, and a business pitch showcase in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Participants are enrolled in one of two specialised learning pathways:
- Climate-Smart Agriculture, which equips participants with sustainable agricultural practices that improve productivity while building resilience to climate change.
- Circular Economy and Upcycling, which empowers participants to transform waste into valuable products and sustainable enterprises through innovative business models.
Beyond technical training, participants will receive practical instruction in green entrepreneurship, sustainable business models, financial management, leadership, communication, and enterprise development, helping them transform environmental challenges into viable business opportunities.

The programme also integrates evidence-based learning into its design. During the application process, participants completed a baseline survey, the findings of which informed the curriculum and will also contribute to a policy brief highlighting opportunities and barriers affecting women’s participation in Africa’s green economy.
Speaking at the Programme Orientation held on July 4, Oyindamola Osinubi, Founder of SEDA and Programme Lead for She Grows Green, described the initiative as an investment in women who will drive Africa’s sustainable future.
“Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our generation, but it is also creating unprecedented opportunities for innovation and enterprise. Through She Grows Green, we are equipping young women not only to respond to climate challenges but to build businesses, create jobs, and lead sustainable solutions that transform their communities.”
Unlike many climate education initiatives that focus primarily on awareness, She Grows Green combines technical skills development, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, practical application, and business support to help participants build enterprises capable of generating both environmental and economic impact. The programme aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
