On Sunday 7th June, 2026, German tennis star Alexander Zverev claimed his first ever Grand Slam title after defeating Flavio Cobolli in the French Open men’s singles final.
In 2022, Zverev left Roland Garros in agony and uncertainty. However, this time around, he departed with history secured.
After overcoming Cobolli in a gripping five-set final, he couldn’t hide his excitement after finally landing the much coveted prize.
Back in 2022, his tournament ended in devastating fashion after a severe ankle injury forced him off court in tears.
He tore multiple ligaments and required surgery, missing months of action. That moment became a defining low in his career.
Now, 1,465 days later, the same court witnessed redemption. Zverev stood tall as he finally fulfilled his long-standing expectations.
“This court is so special to me in so many ways,” Zverev said.
“I have had the best moments and the worst moment of my life on this court.
“I was laid in that corner four years ago with seven broken ligaments. But now, finally, it is a happy ending,” He stated joyfully.
Zverev had long carried the unwanted label of nearly man. Several Grand Slam finals ended in heartbreak.
At the US Open 2020, he squandered a two-set lead. Later, he fell short again in Paris and Melbourne.
“Last year was one of the most difficult moments in my tennis career,” the 29-year-old recalled.
“This year is one of the happiest moments,” he said.

“We have been through injury, heartbreaks, losses. At the end of the day, we are Grand Slam champions now,” he further stated.
