Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday held an emergency meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) following a protest at the State Secretariat in Agodi.
The organised groups marched to the seat of government to express their grievances and deep concerns over the recent kidnapping of several students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area.

Addressing the protesters after listening to their demands, Makinde revealed that a high-level coordination effort is currently underway between the federal, state, and local governments.

He assured the gathered unions and parents that all tiers of government are synchronising their resources to secure the safe release of the abducted victims.
The governor emphasized that the rescue of the teachers and their students remains the top priority of the current administration.
“I assured them that governments at the national, State and local levels are working together to ensure the safe return of our children and teachers who were abducted in Oriire LGA,” the governor stated.
Security feedback
Makinde reaffirmed that the safety and general well-being of all residents in Oyo State remain the administration’s primary focus.

In response to the tension generated by the security breach, he noted that the government remains fully open to feedback and suggestions from stakeholders to improve the security architecture of the state.

He reiterated his pledge to leave no stone unturned in restoring safety to the affected communities.
