Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met with fellow African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, at his Lagos residence on Sunday.
He made the visit after securing victory in the partyโs presidential primary, defeating Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State and Hayatu-Deen.
The meeting formed part of Atikuโs broader reconciliation and unity efforts aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He had earlier visited Amaechi, another contender in the primary, as part of moves to close ranks after the fiercely contested exercise.
During the meeting, Atiku and Hayatu-Deen held what they described as frank and productive discussions on the state of the nation and the internal affairs of the ADC.
Both leaders agreed to put the tensions arising from the primary election behind them and work together to position the ADC as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

โWe resolved to work together in the challenging task of reclaiming and rebuilding our beloved country for the greater good of our people,โ Atiku said after the meeting.
Atiku secured a landslide victory with more than 1.8 million votes in the nationwide direct primary, the process initially attracted criticism from some of his rivals.

Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi both raised concerns about the conduct of the primary shortly after the results were announced on 27 May.
However, Atikuโs recent engagements with both men signalled growing efforts to unite the opposition within the ADC.
By meeting with Hayatu-Deen, a respected economist and former banker, Atiku also underscored his intention to prioritise economic reforms and technocratic expertise in his 2027 campaign.

He maintained that with the primaries concluded, the ADC must now shift focus towards a nationwide campaign centred on โreclaiming and rebuildingโ Nigeria after what he described as years of economic decline.
