The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has announced former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as its governorship candidate for the forthcoming general elections.
Party officials announced his emergence after the conclusion of primaries for presidential and other elective positions in the state, conducted to meet the statutory deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The primaries formalised the political alignment between the APM and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Makinde attended the exercise and congratulated Adekanmbi, alongside other legislative candidates who secured tickets under the alliance.

Adekanmbi, a long-time political ally of the governor, pledged to sustain and expand the “Omituntun” development agenda currently driving governance in the state.
Speaking at the event, Makinde also turned attention to the recent security crisis following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state.
He described the incident as deeply distressing personally and a major challenge for the state government.
He assured affected families that security agencies were actively working to secure the safe return of all victims.
“This is a very difficult period for me personally and for our state,” Makinde said.
“I reassure parents and family members that the abducted children and teachers will return safely.”
Amotekun framework
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the governor defended the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun.

He described it as a vital regional response to policing gaps in the absence of state police.
He noted that while all South-West states except Lagos passed enabling laws for the outfit, federal restrictions have limited its operatives from bearing standard firearms.

Despite these constraints, Makinde commended Amotekun personnel and other security agencies for their continued efforts in maintaining peace and stability across the state.
