Sowore faults Tinubu’s security strategy, cites failed AI camera, forest guard plans

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s approach to Nigeria’s escalating security crisis.

In a statement posted on his X page on Monday, Sowore argued that the federal government’s recent security promises have failed to curb the cycle of violence and abductions currently ravaging the country.

The former presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) highlighted two major security initiatives announced by the presidency that he claims have yielded no results.

Sowore added that in response to the recent mass abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State in mid-May, the president announced plans to deploy 1,000 forest guards to secure the state’s vulnerable timberlands and border corridors.

Despite these high-profile announcements, Sowore maintains that the ground reality remains unchanged, with violence in Plateau and kidnappings in Oyo continuing unabated.

The activist argued that the administration lacks an effective, long-term solution to the insecurity, characterizing the president’s response as a series of reactive, unfulfilled promises.

“Your lazy and clueless president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has no effective solution to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity,” Sowore stated.

“After the killings in Plateau State, he promised to deploy 5,000 AI-enabled surveillance cameras, yet the violence continues.
