Aiyedatiwa approves N350m for 2025 student scholarships, bursaries

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved N350 million for the payment of scholarships and bursaries for students of Ondo State origin in tertiary institutions nationwide.

The funding will benefit approximately 12,000 students and covers five categories, including specific allocations for medical students, law students, and those with disabilities.

The governor’s approval marks an increase from the previous year’s disbursement of N335 million to 11,200 students.

In 2024, Aiyedatiwa had already raised the annual bursary from N10,000 to N20,000.

Students with disabilities received N75,000 each, while scholarship beneficiaries were awarded N100,000 each.

Aiyedatiwa stated that his administration views education as the cornerstone of development and a crucial tool for unlocking the potential of young people.

“Many of our students face significant financial challenges in pursuing their academic dreams,” he said, emphasising that the financial awards are designed to “alleviate financial burdens and enable our students to focus on their studies.

“The announcement comes just two weeks after the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) began its own scholarship and bursary payments for the 2023/2024 academic year, which benefited 4,837 students from oil-producing areas of the state.

Aiyedatiwa highlights his administration’s commitment to investing in the future of the state and ensuring students have the necessary support to excel academically.
