Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has dismissed reports of a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes (kingmakers) regarding the selection process for the new Awujale of Ijebuland.
Abiodun in a statement released yesterday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, characterised the claims as “completely false, misleading,” and the work of “mischief makers” intent on destabilizing the peace in Ijebuland.
The governor clarified that while a meeting did take place with the Council of Afobajes, it was a “respectful consultative” session, not a confrontational one.

The engagement follows a pattern of mediation by the Governor, who previously worked to harmonize polarized Olori Ebis (family heads) and successfully persuaded a kingmaker to withdraw a pending lawsuit to pave the way for a smooth transition.
He emphasised that the discussions focused solely on mutual progress and the legal integrity of traditional affairs.
Abiodun addressed a provocative quote being circulated by anonymous sources.
Reports alleged the governor issued an ultimatum, stating, “No Kuye, No Awujale.”
He denied this, stating the phrase is entirely fabricated and said no member of the Afobajes can attest to such an occurrence because it never happened.
Abiodun maintained that he had never issued threats or ultimatums to the traditional kingmakers.
The governor reiterated his commitment to upholding due process, respecting the autonomy of traditional institutions, and ensuring a fair process in the selection of a new Awujale for Ijebu.

Abiodun highlighted his long-standing reverence for the throne of the Awujale and reiterated his priority for dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values.
He urged the public, traditional stakeholders, and media outlets to ignore unfounded insinuations and rely only on verified updates from official channels to avoid being misled by political or social instigators.
