Uzodimma declares for Imo West Senate seat, backs Tinubu’s agenda

Governor Hope Uzodimma has declared his intention to contest the Imo West Senatorial seat.

In a statement posted on his X page on Sunday said he answered what he described as a “noble call” from the people of the district to represent them in the Senate.

The governor announced his decision after appearing before the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress for the National Assembly primary election.

His entry into the race is expected to reshape the political landscape in the state, as he prepares to return to the National Assembly after years in executive office.

Speaking during his engagement with party leaders, Uzodimma stressed the importance of party supremacy and loyalty to the APC.

According to him, he merely sees himself as a committed party member entrusted with the responsibility of promoting the ideals and aspirations of the APC.

“The senatorial seat I seek to occupy belongs first and foremost to our great party,” he said.

“I remain only a loyal and dedicated candidate entrusted with the responsibility of advancing the vision and values of the APC.”

Representation and development

Uzodimma explained that his ambition was driven by a desire to strengthen legislative support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

He further promised to ensure that Imo West benefits more from federal opportunities and development programmes.

He said his focus in the Senate would centre on quality representation, people-focused legislation and attracting more federal projects to the district.

The governor also pledged to sponsor laws that would promote economic growth, national stability and sustainable development, while consolidating the gains of the current administration.

Uzodimma commended the APC for what he described as its commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians and urged party members to remain united ahead of the elections.

He maintained that his decision to join the senatorial race was motivated by sincerity, service and the collective progress of the people of Imo West.

With the APC primaries drawing closer, political observers believe his candidacy could significantly influence the balance of power in the state and strengthen the party’s position ahead of future elections.
