Akeredolu Burial: Ondo Govt declares Thursday, Friday work-free days

In honor of the former Governor of the State, late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has declared Thursday, 22 February and Friday, 23 February as public holidays in the state.

Aiyedatiwa’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, stated that the two work-free days will allow the people of the state to participate in the burial activities of the former governor.

The burial activities, which commenced last Thursday, will continue tomorrow with Ajabue (Traditional Rites) in Owo.

On the same day, a Special Court Session will be held at Court 1 in Ondo State High Court Headquarters, Hospital Road, Akure, followed by lying in state and a Commendation Service at Akure Township Stadium.

Additionally, an evening of tributes at St. Andrews Church will take place on Imola Street, Owo.

On Thursday, 22 February, a Service of Songs will be held at St. Andrews Cathedral on Imola Street, Owo, followed by a Wake-Keep at Maranatha Villa, Owo.

On Friday, 23 February, there will be a candlelight Procession & World Gyration by the Kegites Club, and a funeral Service at St. Andrews Church on Imola Street, Owo.

Interment will immediately follow the burial service at the burial site in Owo (strictly for immediate family), followed by a reception at Mydas Hotel and Resort on Ikare Road, Owo, starting at 1pm.

On Saturday, 24 February, there will be an Akeredolu Memorial Friendly football match at Akure Township Stadium.

Sunday, 25 February, will host the Thanksgiving Service at St. Andrews Church on Imola Street, Owo.
