Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has dissolved the state’s Executive Council, ending the tenure of all Commissioners after two years in office.

The announcement was made after the 12th Executive Council meeting of 2025, held yesterday.

Alia also named former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Moses Atagher, the new Chief of Staff.

Atagher, a seasoned legal practitioner and former Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, assumed his new role with immediate effect.

While thanking the outgoing Commissioners for their service, the governor urged those who may not be reappointed to remain active within the party.

He stressed that the dissolution was an opportunity for others to contribute to the development of the state.

The governor clarified that the shake-up affects only the Commissioners, not other members of the administration.

Speaking on behalf of the dissolved Council, Barrister Bemsen Mnyim expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve.

He described their tenure as a valuable learning experience.

The former Commissioners have been instructed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries without delay.
