The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over recent remarks by its newly appointed National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who declared that there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” in 2027
.In a statement, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described Yilwatda’s assertion as arrogant and undemocratic.
He argued that the presidency is not a permanent entitlement, but a mandate that must be renewed by the will of the Nigerian people through free and fair elections.
Abdullahi maintained that the statement reflects a dismissive attitude toward democratic principles and warned that such rhetoric could suggest to the public that their votes may not count.
“The APC Chairman’s declaration is presumptuous and disrespectful to Nigerians, who are grappling with hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and broken promises,” Abdullahi said.

“It insults the electorate’s right to decide who governs them.”
He stressed that President Bola Tinubu would be required to “reapply” to Nigerians in 2027 and demonstrate why he deserves to remain in office despite what it described as the devastating impact of his administration’s policies.
Abdullahi noted that the President’s re-election bid would be judged by key performance indicators, including youth employment, security, poverty reduction, electricity supply, and justice delivery.
He added that no amount of self-praise or propaganda could alter the reality experienced by ordinary Nigerians.
“While APC operatives celebrate themselves, food prices continue to soar beyond the reach of most citizens, bandits are overrunning communities, and the Naira remains battered,” Abdullahi said.
He also accused the ruling party of mocking the suffering of ordinary Nigerians by making such declarations two years ahead of the election, suggesting it undermines the spirit of democracy.
“Declaring ‘no vacancy’ in Aso Rock is an affront to those who still believe in the power of their votes. APC must understand that they do not get to mark their own scripts in 2027,” Abdullahi added.
He reiterated ADC’s commitment to democratic principles and warned the APC against complacency, saying that Nigerians were eager to reclaim their future at the polls.
