Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has reiterated his resolve to eliminate illegal taxation in the state, particularly the unlawful collection of “matching ground” fees.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page yesterday, the governor revealed that he made this declaration during the annual Ngur Day celebration in Mbangur, Vandeikya Local Government Area.
He emphasised that anyone caught engaging in the collection of matching ground fees or similar illegal levies would face the full force of the law.
Governor Alia also highlighted that the state remains open for business, welcoming investors and partners ready to contribute to its transformative agenda.
“Yesterday, I had the honour of joining my good people of Mbangur, Vandeikya LGA, as they celebrated their annual Ngur Day. This special occasion allowed us to reflect on our shared values of unity and progress as we chart a course for sustainable development in our communities.

“In my remarks, I emphasized that for us to achieve lasting development, love and unity must be the driving force behind every step we take. We must shun actions that hinder our progress or tarnish the image of our land. In particular, I cautioned our youth against practices that could set us back or negatively impact the perception of Mbangur and Benue State as a whole”, he added.
The governor emphasised his administration’s determination to support farmers.
He encouraged farmers across the state to establish cooperatives, promising to provide free fertilizer and improved agricultural inputs to boost productivity and strengthen food security.
