Brazil gains momentum in FIFA CWC 2029 bid, rivals U.S., Australia, and Iberia

Brazil joins the bid to host the 2029 FIFA's Club World Cup

Brazil officially declared interest in hosting the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, stepping into a competitive race for global football’s expanding tournament.

The event will take place in June and July 2029. It will mark the second run of FIFA’s 32-team format, which was introduced to increase global participation.

FIFA has not announced a host yet. Brazil’s early move signals clear ambition, as it prepares to reclaim its spot among world football’s trusted organisers.

The format keeps eight groups of four clubs, followed by knockout rounds. It closely mirrors the men’s World Cup, boosting the tournament’s prestige.

FIFA’s design seeks to move elite club football beyond its usual regions. This signals a shift towards global balance and wider opportunities for clubs.

Samir Xaud, CBF President, met FIFA President Gianni Infantino on June 20, 2025, at a summit in Miami. He formally presented Brazil’s intention. While Infantino described Brazil’s bid as “totally possible.”

Brazil plans to use stadiums from the 2014 World Cup and the 2027 Women’s World Cup. That shows efficiency and long-term planning by local authorities.

Xaud stressed that Brazil is no longer in a preliminary stage. The bid has moved to active planning: aiming to convert past infrastructure into present advantage.

Strong results by Brazilian clubs in the 2025 edition—six wins and two losses—support the bid’s footballing relevance. Performance and organisation go hand in hand.

Other nations join the contest

The United States remains a serious challenger. After staging the 2025 edition and preparing for the 2026 World Cup, its readiness appears beyond doubt.

Its stadium network and large-scale event experience remain unmatched. The U.S. brings proven capability and remains a consistent force in global football organisation.

Australia has made its interest official. James Johnson, head of Football Australia, confirmed a joint bid with New Zealand, forming a strong regional front.

Their successful organisation of the 2023 Women’s World Cup adds credibility. Hosting the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup further confirms operational strength.

Spain, Portugal, and Morocco are also preparing a united bid. As confirmed hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, their planning is already underway.

FIFA has yet to choose a host. As of June 24, 2025, the process remains open. Countries are still in the early stages.

Future steps include technical reviews and bid submissions. FIFA will assess experience, readiness, geographic distribution, and overall value before making a final decision.

Brazil is advancing a focused campaign, relying on history, infrastructure, and club performance. It wants to stage another high-level competition on familiar soil.

FIFA’s final call will rest on delivery potential and long-term vision. Brazil must now follow with sharp execution and skilled diplomatic engagement.
