Chelsea have completed the permanent signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.
The Premier League club confirmed the transfer on Sunday, with the 33-year-old signing a three-year contract with the Blues.
Martinez joins Chelsea after six seasons at Aston Villa, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers.
The Argentine goalkeeper, who was part of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning team, said he was excited to begin his career at Stamford Bridge.
“I’m delighted to be at this football club,” Martinez said in a post on The Blues’ website.
“Coming to Chelsea, for me and my family, was an easy decision to make and I’m just over the moon – I can’t wait to get started
“I want to be successful here. I’m someone who wants to win at everything I do and I want to bring that here to this football club because it’s a football club that wins titles, so I think it’s a good match.
“I’m all passion and I play with my heart. I will give 100 per cent every game, every training session to make the club, my teammates and the supporters proud.”

Martinez joined Arsenal from Independiente in August 2010 at the age of 17. He spent several seasons on loan before becoming a regular for the Gunners during the 2019/20 campaign.
He helped Arsenal win the FA Cup that season before also featuring in the club’s Community Shield triumph at the start of the following campaign.
The goalkeeper left Arsenal for Aston Villa in September 2020 and went on to make 256 appearances for the club during his six-year spell.

Martinez was also part of the Villa team that won the UEFA Europa League in May.
At international level, Martinez made his Argentina debut in June 2021 and has since earned 67 caps.
He helped Argentina win the Copa America in 2021 and 2024, while also playing a key role in their World Cup triumph in Qatar in 2022.
His performances have earned him the Yashin Trophy at the 2023 and 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremonies, recognising him as the world’s best-performing goalkeeper in those respective years.
Aston Villa confirmed Martinez’s departure in a statement posted on its X account, saying he “will always be remembered for his part in our recent journey and success” before wishing him well at Chelsea.
Martinez will now continue his Premier League career at Chelsea as the club strengthens its goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
