Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi is facing a provisional suspension from football for 90 days following match-fixing allegations.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced the decision after launching an official investigation into the matter.

NRTC earlier reported the controversy erupted when a viral video surfaced online, allegedly showing Matasi agreeing to manipulate a match outcome (the undated video not yet verified). As a result, FKF swiftly intervened, placing the 37-year-old Kakamega Homeboyz shot-stopper under suspension while investigations continue.

According to FKF, this action aligns with Section VII (2) of its 2016 Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations. The governing body further confirmed that both Matasi and his club had been formally informed of the decision.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, BBC reports that Matasi has denied any involvement in match manipulation. His club’s owner, Cleophas Shimanyula, also stated that the goalkeeper refutes all claims against him.
Matasi has been a key figure in Kenyan football, boasting over 30 international caps. His last appearance for the Harambee Stars came in a 4-1 loss to Cameroon during a 2025 AFCON qualifier last October.
FKF reassured stakeholders that it would work closely with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities to ensure a transparent investigation. The federation reiterated its commitment to protecting football’s integrity.
