In the aftermath of the deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba in Jos North, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olatunji Disu, has arrived in Plateau State to lead a coordinated security operation aimed at restoring calm and preventing further bloodshed.

The visit followed the March 29, 2026, assault in the Nasarawa Gwong area, which left several people dead and heightened tensions across the state capital.

The police high command acted without delay after receiving distress calls from the affected community.

According to the IGP, a comprehensive operational response was immediately activated to contain the situation.

To reinforce security efforts, senior officers and tactical units were deployed, including the Deputy Inspector-General (Operations), Usman Nadada, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mobile Force, Francis Iwu, who were sent to oversee operations on the ground.

Eight units of the Police Mobile Force, alongside the Special Intervention Squad and intelligence and response teams, are working closely with the military and other security agencies.

On arrival, the IGP paid a courtesy visit to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, where he conveyed condolences to the government and people of the state.

He then proceeded to Angwan Rukuba to assess the situation directly and engage with residents affected by the violence.

Police authorities say coordinated security operations, including targeted raids and sustained engagement with local leaders and youth groups, have already helped to ease tensions in the area.

While reaffirming the police’s commitment to restoring peace, the IGP cautioned residents—particularly young people—against taking the law into their own hands.

He warned that reprisals or acts of vigilantism would only worsen the crisis and derail ongoing efforts to stabilise the area, stressing that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice through lawful means.

Security operations remain underway, with intelligence-led efforts focused on identifying and apprehending those behind the March 29 attack.
