Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly reignited their pursuit of Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
According to Afrik-Foot, the Soweto giants want reinforcements between the sticks before the new campaign begins. As a result, the Nigerian shot-stopper has re-emerged as a prime target.
The club had tracked Nwabali during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. There, he delivered commanding displays for the Nigeria national football team, helping the team secure a bronze medal finish. His composure under pressure left a lasting impression on Chiefs’ technical team.
After parting ways with Chippa United earlier this year, the 29-year-old became a free agent. Now, reports suggest Chiefs have submitted a formal offer to secure him permanently. Therefore, his spell without a club could soon end.
Widely admired in the NPFL, Nwabali’s availability makes him an attractive market opportunity. Moreover, his strong aerial command and sharp reflexes enhance his reputation. Over recent years, he has grown into one of Nigeria’s safest pairs of hands.

Kaizer Chiefs’ urgency is heightened by uncertainty surrounding first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. He underwent an appendix operation on Friday and is expected to leave hospital Monday.

However, recovery timelines typically stretch between three and six weeks. The sudden illness forced him out of the recent Soweto derby. That absence disrupted his rhythm and national team ambitions. Also, doctors advised immediate surgery after he fell ill earlier in the week.
With Petersen sidelined, Bruce Bvuma stepped in against Orlando Pirates. Chiefs slumped to a 3-0 defeat, slipping 11 points behind in the Premiership title race. Consequently, stability in goal has become a pressing priority.
Nwabali’s leadership and international pedigree could steady that defensive line. Furthermore, his experience may inject renewed confidence into a rebuilding squad.
