Lip lining is the act of accentuating the lines of lips with lip liners. The trend of lip lining surged higher in Nigeria when Tiktok stars started to create signature nude lip looks with an eye pencil and lip gloss sometimes with nude lipstick. Some of them used the black eye pencil to achieve this look. Most Gen Zs hopped on this trend without considering the factors involved.
Unless you are trying to create a gothic or an old-school look, a black eye pencil is not supposed to be used to line your lips for a nude look. Lining your lips with a black eye pencil can often create a makeup mishap. You might come off giving a spooky vibe instead of an alluring look. Makeup is not meant to make you look artificial but natural- you should use makeup to accentuate your beauty.

Lip Lining Tip 1. Use a lip liner shade close to your lip and skin tone.
The reason the black lip liner might not fit most Nigerians is that their lip tone is not completely black. The black lip liner used is on another end of the shade of their skin color too. If a person fair in complexion minimally uses a black lip liner, it might do a little justice to their lips. Using a black lip liner takes expertise to look alluring and you might need to blend it with lipstick or another shade of lipliner.
Lip liners are made for lip lining but one can improvise with eye pencils or eyeliners. When using a lip liner or an eye pencil to line your lips, look for one whose shade is close to your skin color. In doing this, it gives your lips that natural look. As a Nigerian, you can opt for a brown lip liner for a nude look but find the shade close to your lip tone.
Lip Lining Tip 2. Add volume to your lip lining, do not draw thin strokes of lines because it is called lip lining
When you are lining your lips, add a little bit of volume to the strokes. Drawing thin strokes of lines to outline your lips does not look pleasant. Lip lining is not supposed to look traceable but rather gives this disappearing effect in your lip skin. Lining your lips accentuates the volume of your lips, those thin strokes would make your lips look ridiculous.
