Mimiko praises Oyebanji’s transformative leadership

Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo State has commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his effective leadership and commitment to the state’s development.

He highlighted the unprecedented progress achieved under his administration.Mimiko made the remarks during a courtesy visit to Governor Oyebanji’s office in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

He praised the governor’s rare combination of competence and character, which he said had driven significant advancements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment across the state.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Mimiko noted that Oyebanji’s ability to implement impactful policies, foster unity among diverse stakeholders, and prioritise the welfare of Ekiti residents had contributed to the state’s steady progress.

Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Oyebanji, which predates the creation of the state, Mimiko expressed satisfaction with the speed of development.

He affirmed that the governor was well-prepared for leadership, having undergone necessary political tutelage and demonstrated sound values.

“Well, let me start by saying that what I have seen in terms of outcomes, I am not disappointed. I feel good about it and like I said, Biodun Oyebanji is prepared for the job. He went through the required tutelage because, apart from technical competence, there is also character. This is a man who is good in the head and good in his heart, and that has translated to the transformation we can see in the state,” Mimiko said.

He further highlighted Oyebanji’s ability to maintain strong relationships across political divides, noting that all past governors of Ekiti, regardless of party affiliation, have endorsed Oyebanji for a second term, a testament to his achievements and rapport with the people.

In response, Oyebanji expressed gratitude to Mimiko for the visit and described him as a political mentor who discovered his talents and shaped his leadership values.

“Governor Mimiko is a mentor to me, and I often tell people that if Ekiti State had not been created, I would have been a critical part of his government. I worked closely with him and studied him. He was my first political contact and instilled in me values of honesty, competence, modesty, and living for the people,” Oyebanji said.

The governor credited much of his people-centred governance style, simplicity, and integrity to the guidance he received from Mimiko.
